xxxxxx,
If you know anything about me, you know that through personal experience, my decades-long fight to take down the confederate flag, and earning the NAACP’s Foot Solider in the Sand Award for my civil rights legal work here in Florida — my commitment to civil rights is marrow-deep.
The persistent fight for civil rights all flows downhill from our nation's original sin: slavery. Generations of Black people were dehumanized and traumatized for a singular purpose: unpaid backbreaking labor, policed through abject cruelty, to enrich a racist aristocracy.
Our nation has made many strides since then. Juneteenth celebrates when Union forces marched into Galveston, Texas to enforce the end of slavery. Despite Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation two years prior, Confederate strongholds resisted until the war was lost.
Newly freed slaves celebrated their long-denied freedom, ultimately spreading across the country, until finally receiving federal recognition as a national holiday last year.
Juneteenth is an important day of celebration — particularly as freedoms in the classroom, at the ballot box, and in the daily lives of many of our fellow citizens are under increasing threat. It also provides us with a hopeful reminder: freedom cannot be denied forever. Juneteenth celebrates a national course correction won through generations of struggle. The fruits of that struggle were won by many who have paid for it with their lives.
This Juneteenth, let us honor those who came before us by committing ourselves anew to the purpose of our cause: freedom, equality, and justice.
I hope you will join me in celebrating this important day, and continue doing what you can to fight back against the injustices facing Black people here in Florida and across our nation.

Daniel is running for Attorney General because for the last 4 years, the Florida Governor and Attorney General have been more interested in bullying those they don’t agree with than helping Florida families. It is time someone finally stood up to the bullies. Daniel is the person to do just that — donate now to help power his campaign to hold Ron DeSantis and Ashley Moody accountable![[link removed]]
