If we haven’t met, I’m Izaah Knox, Democratic candidate for Iowa Senate in District 17. Today is a very special day: not only is it Father’s Day, it is also Juneteenth. As a father of three running to be the first Black Iowa State Senator in over 30 years, these days of observance and celebration are both sacred to me.

Juneteenth is a commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans, and while it is a celebration of how far we’ve come it is also an opportunity to reflect on the work that remains. Because of my experiences and love for Iowa, I am running to make life better for Iowa families and workers and to show future generations that change is possible.
