Inflation at its Highest Rate in Four Decades

Instead of addressing forty-year high inflation, surging gas prices, and broken supply chains, Democrats spent the last week wasting valuable floor time on another partisan messaging bill that will not become law. This week’s bill was H.R. 2543, or what I like to call the Diverting Attention from Democrats’ Dismal Economy Act, and on Wednesday, I spoke on the House floor in opposition to it. In addition to denouncing the Democrats' failure to address rising prices, I also highlighted concerns people in the Tenth District have about the cost of everyday goods skyrocketing in further remarks on the House floor. Record High Gas Prices

Nationally, gas prices are now over $5 a gallon, more than double the cost of a gallon of gas on President Biden’s first day in office. This means Americans will be forced to spend over $2,000 extra a year on gas thanks to the Democrats’ reckless policies. But instead of working to ensure American energy independence, Democrats are actively pursuing far-left policies that will make gas even more expensive. Just last week, John Kerry, who serves as President Biden's Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, said "we absolutely don't" need to continue oil and gas drilling. This is all happening while President Biden dangerously depletes the Strategic Petroleum Reserve by 40%.

Our Southern Border is Overwhelmed

Another month and another dangerous record at our southern border. In May, there were 239,416 illegal border encounters — the worst month ever. That brings the total border encounters to almost three million illegal immigrants since President Biden took office, and that doesn’t even include the thousands who evade Border Patrol apprehension every day. Thanks to the Democrats’ radical policies the border is overwhelmed, which means more opportunities for deadly fentanyl and bad actors—including suspects on the terror watch list—to flood our communities.

2022 Carolina Brotherhood Memorial Ride to begin in Mooresville on June 20

Monday, June 20th marks the start of the 2022 Carolina Brotherhood Memorial Ride to honor and remember fallen public safety servants across North and South Carolina. This year's ride kicks off in Mooresville to honor Mooresville Police Department Officer Jordan Sheldon who was killed in the line of duty in 2019. This year's participants will ride over 600 miles in the memory of the sixteen firefighters, 29 police officers, and five K9's lost in the line of duty in 2019 and 2020. We will never forget those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to help protect and serve their community.

County emergency responders honored

Last week thirteen Surry County emergency responders were recognized for saving lives and for representing the county with honor in competition. Three paramedics were honored for saving ten lives in the line of duty and the members of the 2022 Surry County State Paramedic Team were recognized for being crowned the 2022 Region I Champions. Please join me in thanking all of our first responders for the important work they do to save lives here in the Tenth District.

Members of the King community and local law enforcement came out to give him a warm welcome home on his return from the hospital.
