Friend,
Today is Juneteenth, a day to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. As we remember this historic moment, we must also grapple with the inequity and racism that persists in our country today.
In the past two years, the United States and especially White Americans have engaged in frank conversations about racism in an unprecedented and long-overdue way, as the number of unarmed Black Americans who are killed because of the color of their skin grows every day — including the recent mass shooting in Buffalo carried out by a white supremacist in a majority-Black neighborhood.
As an elected official and someone who was raised to work for equal rights for everyone, I am committed to supporting our Black communities and finding solutions. If you, like me, want to take action to be a part of the solution, I encourage you to consider donating to the NAACP to support their fight for civil rights today.
In solidarity,
Susan
