This Week at the NYGOP

Dear Friend,

To all the dads out there, we wish you a very Happy Father's Day!

We are just a little more than a week away from Primary Day in New York and early vote is already underway.

On June 28th, voters will head to the polls to pick our Republican nominee for governor and select the leader we need to defeat Kathy Hochul and end the 15-year reign of disgraced Democrat governors.

This week, our Republican candidates gathered for their first televised debate. Our Party's designee, Congressman Lee Zeldin, demonstrated he has the vision, experience, and tested leadership to WIN. If you missed the debate, you can watch it below.

Everything is on the line this year. The mission to save our state is just as important as ever. Once again, Kathy Hochul has demonstrated she is continuing the same corrupt, power-hungry administration as the one she served in with Cuomo. She quietly and unilaterally extended her emergency powers without approval from the legislature--and certainly without the input of the citizens of New York.

While she is focused on acting like a dictator and growing her own power, the state's problems continue to explode. New Yorkers are drowning under a crushing cost of living and crime crisis. A new Siena poll out this week showed 71% of New Yorkers think the state is in a fair or poor fiscal condition and a whopping 92% of New Yorkers think crime is a serious issue. It's no wonder that a majority of New Yorkers disapprove of Hochul's job performance.

As I have said many times, to change New York, we must change governors. Electing a Republican governor will restore balance and common sense to our state. We must return safety to our streets and usher in a new era of economic prosperity.

Lester Chang

Candidate for State Assembly

Lester Chang was born on the Lower East Side in public housing to immigrant Chinese parents, who were determined to provide a better life for their three children. When Lester was 8 years old, his father who worked as a cook in a Chinese restaurant, lost his battle with cancer and the family briefly returned to Hong Kong to live with relatives. A few years later, his family returned to New York City and settled in Midwood, Brooklyn.

A product of New York’s public education system, Lester has graduated from Midwood High School and holds a BS degree in accounting from Brooklyn College (CUNY) and a Masters Degree in International Transportation from (SUNY) State University of New York Maritime College in the Bronx. Lester previously worked in banking and finance before choosing a caree in global logistics which enabled him to travel extensively in Asia. Lee Zeldin is the best bet for governor to save New York

New York state is on the edge of a cliff — this fall’s election may be the last chance to pull it back. Residents are fleeing, driven out by raging crime and ever-higher costs of living. Hochul, Zeldin hold double-digit leads in NY governor

Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) hold double-digit leads in their parties’ respective New York gubernatorial primaries, according to an Emerson College Polling-PIX11-The Hill poll released Monday. On the Republican side, Zeldin leads the field with 34 percent support among very likely GOP primary voters. He is trailed by former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino with 16 percent, businessman Harry Wilson at 15 percent and Andrew Giuliani, the son of former Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R), with 13 percent. Another 22 percent are undecided. Of the undecided voters, 30 percent lean toward Astorino, 29 percent lean toward Zeldin and 21 percent each lean toward Wilson and Giuliani. Both primaries will be held on June 28.

How Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg could get removed from office

Congressman Zeldin insisted that Hochul’s refusal to remove Bragg would be her undoing. “Californians made their voice heard, and, in November, New Yorkers will too when they remove Kathy Hochul for, among many reasons, her refusal to fire pro-criminal Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg,” he said. “New Yorkers are sick and tired of criminals ruling our streets, and they’re ready to end the attacks on our safety, repeal cashless bail, take back our streets and save our state.” NY GOP Chairman Nick Langworthy, meanwhile, accused Hochul of caving “to the radical left,” saying she “will never have the courage to remove woke Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg.” “But under a Republican governor, we will absolutely remove prosecutors who don’t do their jobs,” Langworthy said.

Zeldin targets Hochul: 'She tries to be whoever her political consultants tell her to be'

For months, Rep. Lee Zeldin has been crisscrossing New York as he seeks the Republican nomination for governor, telling anybody who will listen all about his plans to transform the state. Less than two weeks before the June 28 GOP primary, the Suffolk County congressman on Wednesday convened reporters to denounce Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul's latest extension of emergency powers to deal with Covid-19. But he didn't stop there during his appearance at Erie County Republican Headquarters on Main Street. The candidate lambasted Hochul as "clearly in over her head" after succeeding Andrew M. Cuomo as governor in August. He called her latest emergency power declaration a "lust for more power and control," adding Hochul sat idly as Cuomo mishandled the Covid-19 crisis and then wangled a $5.1 million "self-congratulatory" book deal. Zeldin said Hochul "tripled down" on her choice of the indicted Brian Benjamin as lieutenant governor, despite media reports of investigations into his past campaigns, and he again zeroed in on her new zeal for gun control after gaining an A rating from the NRA running for Congress a decade ago.

New Biden approval numbers flash warning signs for Democrats this November

A new Siena College poll has warning signs for President Joe Biden and other Democrats in the Empire State in what could be bruising elections for their party later this year.

Just 35% of respondents say President Biden is doing a “good” or “excellent” as president while 37% and 25% respectively say the state and country are heading in the right direction. Such numbers could help sink Democratic hopes of retaining several swing districts in the US House from New York are their narrow majority hangs in the balance this November. Voters’ awareness of an ongoing increase in crime could weigh down Democrats as well despite the relative popularity of new gun restrictions at the state level, according to the poll of 802 registered voters conducted June 7-9 and June 13.

“About two-thirds of New Yorkers think crime in their community is a serious problem, including 78% of New York City voters – 40% very serious – 61% of upstaters and 51% of downstate suburbanites,” pollster Steven Greenberg said in a press release.
