Today, we must recommit ourselves to continue taking action against racial injustice and fight for what our country should be: a place where we are all truly equal.

Chris Coons
John,

The United States was built on the labor of enslaved Black Americans, and it wouldn't be until June 19, 1865, that slavery fully ended when the final men and women were freed. Juneteenth is a day of much significance.

Last year, I was proud to vote to make Juneteenth a federal holiday. The institution of slavery stained our nation for 250 years, and its end is a cause for celebration and pride. Today offers us an important opportunity to reflect on the meaning of equality in the United States.

On Juneteenth, we celebrate the strength and resilience of the Black community in America. We should also make it a day to reflect on the present and our hope for the future. What are we doing to deliver on the unfulfilled promises of liberty and justice for all?

Today, we must recommit ourselves to continue taking action against racial injustice and fight for what our country should be: a place where we are all truly equal.

Thank you,

Chris Coons
