One example of these solutions in action is from Black Mesa Water Coalition (BMWC). They have been organizing to protect the Navajo Aquifer for nearly two decades. This year BMWC and their allies got one step closer to this mission with the closure of the coal-powered Navajo Generating Station. But they understand that ending fossil fuel projects is only part of the equation, they must also continue
their cultural and ancestral traditions that respect the land, water, and other living beings. In September, BMWC hosted its annual Harvest Festival where youth, young adults, and elders gathered to reconnect to those traditions and strategize on how to build power in the Navajo Nation’s communities. Just like our other members throughout the area, their collective power is making a Just Transition real on the ground. I am certain that we can only create
this new world through deep collaboration, visionary leadership, and new ideas–like the innovative organizing strategies Black Mesa Water Coalition is spearheading. For that reason, I knew that we couldn’t start our end of year fundraising campaign the way most others would by simply asking for a contribution. Here are all our incredible members working in
your area—will you donate directly to one or more of them and support frontline solutions?
Happy holidays,
Angela Adrar Executive Director Climate Justice Alliance P.S. Once you make a donation to one of our members you can amplify the value of your gift by heading over to our social media toolkit for resources including draft posts and photos you can share with your friends and family!
