John,
Juneteenth is a day of resistance, freedom deferred — and Black joy. The
holiday commemorates the end of chattel slavery in the U.S. and the day in
1865 in which Black enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were informed of
their freedom — more than two and a half years after the Emancipation
Proclamation.
This Juneteenth, we're celebrating our newest federal holiday in St. Louis
and spreading love across this community.
Later this afternoon, we'll be coming together for a parade and canvass to
connect with our neighbors and spread the message about our work to
transform politics and save lives.
As we celebrate, it's important we also renew our commitment to full Black
freedom and liberation. That means providing reparations, ending the war
on drugs, protecting voting rights, stopping police violence, funding
housing, supporting public education, guaranteeing health care, and
teaching the truth about our history. This is how we defend Black lives in
our policies.
In Congress, Cori is working to dismantle anti-Black, white supremacist
systems of violence in America and build a future of care. In her first
term in Congress, she has introduced legislation to address environmental
racism, end the war on drugs, and fully transform our approach to public
safety.
Now, Cori and our team are preparing legislation to expand our fight for
reparations, liberation, and freedom. [ [link removed] ]If you'd like to help support

ahead, and celebrate today,
John.
