AIPAC’s super PAC has announced yet another avalanche of attack ads against a principled, progressive, J Street-endorsed Democrat.
This time, we’re expecting over $1.5 million in attack ads against former Congresswoman Donna Edwards in her Maryland primary. One of J Street’s earliest champions, Donna has a proud record standing up for human rights, backing President Obama’s Iran deal and supporting a just, peaceful and free future for both Israelis and Palestinians.
Those principles have made her a top target for AIPAC, which continues to attack Democrats who stand for democratic freedoms and the rule of law, while also fundraising for over 100 Republicans who voted to overturn the election on January 6.

In Maryland, J Street has issued a clear call on Edwards’ opponent to disavow the attack ads, turning the spotlight onto his acceptance of anti-democratic, right-wing support. Together, we need to make sure every Democratic voter knows that when a candidate accepts support from a super PAC tied to 109 Republicans who sided with violent insurrectionists by voting to overturn the election, it’s a clear red flag.
We’ve echoed supportive messages from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has joined Senator Elizabeth Warren to endorse the Edwards campaign, and who has made clear that AIPAC’s attacks on Donna Edwards' record are baseless.
And through the J Street Action Fund, our movement is directly combating AIPAC’s spending in primary races and helping to elect the next generation of principled, values-driven leaders.
The Edwards race is part of a larger referendum on whether our democratic system is going to reject attempts by AIPAC and its allies to overwhelm our political system with tens of millions of dollars to shut down those who -- like Donna Edwards -- courageously stand up for peace, diplomacy and human rights for Israelis and Palestinians.
Together, we must stand up for our vision of a truly just, democratic Israel -- and make clear that there can be no excuse for funding over 100 MAGA Republicans who threaten the foundations of our democracy.
