Happy Juneteenth, John!

Today marks the day that news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached Texas and the last enslaved African Americans in 1865.

Since that day more than 150 years ago, Black communities have celebrated Juneteenth or Freedom Day every year, but it wasn’t until 2021 that Juneteenth was made a federal holiday in the aftermath of the nationwide protests and calls for racial justice following the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor in 2020.

Today, we celebrate freedom and emancipation while continuing to put in the work for true racial justice, including fighting for criminal justice reform, creating equity in healthcare, housing, education, and employment, and stopping the increase in anti-Black hate crimes.

In Congress, I will stand up for each and every member of our communities here in Bucks and Montgomery Counties. But I won’t wait until I am in Congress to take action, and I hope you join me in doing the same. Here are three things you can do to stand up for justice and equity for all:

Support Black-owned businesses
Attend the Juneteenth Celebrations in your community
Join Bucks County NAACP chapter here >> [link removed]

I hope you enjoy this holiday as we reflect on this important day in American history,

— Ashley
