John,

Today is Juneteenth — the day we celebrate Black liberation in the United States. 156 years ago, three years after the Emancipation Proclamation, the final enslaved people were freed from slavery in this country and with that, we entered a new era of American history.

This Juneteenth, we should celebrate the achievements and progress of the past, present and future leaders of the Black community, but also stay focused on the road ahead on how much more we must accomplish to truly be a free, equal and equitable country. The United States is at a crossroads and Black rights are still under attack. From racially provoked killings to inequities and lack of educational, health and economic policies that continue to plague black communities daily, there is a tough fight ahead of us.

Here at Connecticut Democrats, we strive to amplify the voices of every American, but we can’t do it alone.

That’s why we are asking you to get involved in the Connecticut Democrats Black Caucus — a free membership to join like-minded individuals who want to advocate for protections at the state and national levels. All are welcome!
