Hello, John, and Happy Juneteenth.

Today marks the day in 1865 when the news of freedom finally reached the last enslaved Black men and women in our country in Galveston, Texas.

Today, we honor and recognize the work of Black leaders and activists who led the fight for freedom and those who carry on the fight for equality today.

As we celebrate Black heritage, liberation, and freedom, we must also recognize our country’s history. Though never again in this country will one person own another, it’s on all of us to help root out systemic racism that unfortunately still persists.

We have come a long way since 1865, but there’s more work to do. I’m committed to making sure everyone has the opportunities they need to succeed and thrive.

Let’s continue to work together to build a more just and equitable North Carolina that works for everyone.

Thank you,

Roy
