** Juneteenth National Independence Day:
A Call to Action
------------------------------------------------------------
PACEs Connection recognizes the importance of the Juneteenth National Independence Day. Even though American chattel slavery was abolished in 1863, the echoes of slavery can still be heard today. Nearly 160 years later, race is the single most impactful social determinant of health and the world is still reeling from the racial reckoning of 2020 fueled, in part, by the murder of George Floyd. Furthermore, PACEs science makes it clear that trauma can be passed from generation to generation. This means that the institution of slavery, and the resulting institutional racism, has harmed many generations of Americans and is still impacting every aspect of American life, every American institution, every American town, or city.
PACEs Connection supports communities. We envision a resilient world where all people thrive. Our communities can only thrive when we remove systemic barriers. This requires hard work, effort, truth-telling and reconciliation. PACEs Connection invites our members to educate themselves and others about historical trauma, engage their communities in fulfilling equity work, activate their local and state political leaders to bring about true change through policy and celebrate the rich and beautiful culture that has resulted from the post-traumatic growth of enslaved Africans and their descendants. Happy Juneteenth!
