John, today is Juneteenth — and I feel joy.

Joy that last year the Senate unanimously passed legislation to make Juneteenth a federal holiday, which President Biden quickly signed into law.

Joy for seeing the struggle and sacrifice of our ancestors manifest itself across our country, including the confirmation of the first Black woman, Ketanji Brown Jackson, who is just weeks away from ascending to the Supreme Court.

Joy knowing that our future is bright because of the hard work of dedicated activists, advocates, and organizers across this nation.

I know that for many Americans, especially Black and Brown Americans, there is still work that needs to be done, there is still progress that desperately needs to be made, but family, today is Juneteenth, and no one is going to steal my joy.
