# [#] Today is Juneteenth!
It is a common misconception that the Emancipation Proclamation ended African American enslavement in the United States – but this came a full two years later when the last enslaved Black Americans were informed of their freedom in Galveston, Texas.
Juneteenth honors Black Freedom and the strides toward justice for Black people in America.
African American enslavement and its impacts on the people of this country are an indelible part of our nation’s history and heritage. Observing Juneteenth is an integral part of recognizing and celebrating the history of Black Americans.
I am proud to celebrate the contributions of Black Americans to American society and culture today and every day.
I hope you’ll join us in reflecting on the importance of this holiday.
Happy Juneteenth from all of us on Team Larson!
