Happy Juneteenth, Folks.

Today, we celebrate the abolition of slavery. And we recommit ourselves to the ongoing work of fighting for equality.

The first Juneteenth was on this day in 1865 when the good news finally reached the enslaved people of Galveston, and they celebrated their freedom. That was more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation — reminding me of the time and effort it takes to deliver progress and ensure justice.

Last year, the first time that Juneteenth was recognized (finally!) as a federal holiday, I celebrated the momentous occasion in Elaine, Arkansas.

That location was especially significant because it’s where, over 100 years ago, racist violence took the lives of hundreds of Black men, women, and children. Community members — including descendants of victims and perpetrators alike — have lifted the story of the massacre to ensure it’s not forgotten. And every time I go to Elaine, I meet people committed to the dogged pursuit of justice.

The work is continuous. However, we can move our great state forward with faith in Arkansas and faith in each other.

We can offer leadership that brings people together and improves their lives.

I’m the first African American nominated by a major party for Governor of Arkansas. Let’s write some more history together by winning this race — and let’s build a future where everyone in our state has the opportunity to thrive.

Please chip in $20 or any amount today to power this campaign to victory. [[link removed]]

Happy Juneteenth,

Chris Jones
