Building on her work with the Poor People’s Campaign led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy, Marian Wright Edelman founded the Children’s Defense Fund to help end poverty in America and ensure that all children get the safe, healthy, and moral start they need in life.

Now, 45 years later, we are still leading the fight for children—and so are you. With the help of friends like you, in the past year we have been able to successfully defend health care and food access for working families through our advocacy efforts and help nearly 12,000 children grow their reading skills and self-confidence through our Freedom Schools^®.
