Friend,
Yesterday, the Senate passed the "Honoring Our PACT Act." The bill will greatly increase resources for veterans suffering the long-term effects of burn pits. It is long overdue. The toxic chemicals burned near soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan have caused cancers and lung problems ever since -- and will only get worse as my generation of veterans gets older.
The burn pit issue has been called the Global War on Terror's Agent Orange: first denied by the government, then under-resourced, and only belatedly recognized as a real problem.
The "Honoring Our PACT Act" was passed with strong bipartisan support in the House (256-174) and Senate (84-14).
Every vote against it was Republican -- including our own Doug LaMalfa, who was apparently worried about the fiscal impacts of spending money on anything that isn't a farm check.
Republicans like Doug LaMalfa and Trump claim to love the military, but what they actually mean is that they love guys with guns that they can order around. They want a parade on demand, and they're happy to vote for war after war, but they don't want to pay for the lives they've ruined.
Democrats see soldiers as people serving their country, Republicans like LaMalfa see soldiers as props serving politicians. Thankfully, the Democrats (and the moderate, patriotic Republicans who voted with them) won on this issue. Just as I intend to win in November.
We're coming up on our end-of-quarter fundraising deadline and we're still a bit short of our $35,000 goal to unseat Doug LaMalfa. If you're ready to flip CD-01 and change Congress for the better, send in a donation support my grassroots campaign today >>
