We can’t let this opportunity to rein in Big Tech slip away from us.
John,
I’ll be quick. Lawmakers are dragging their feet to vote on bills that would rein in Big Tech. The longer they wait, the more time (and $$$, $36 million+) Amazon, Facebook, Google, Apple and their lobbying groups can spend opposing the legislation.1 That’s exactly what they want—to run out the clock. But we can’t let them.
DONATE TO KEEP #ANTITRUSTSUMMER HOTLast week, John Oliver laid out why we must stop tech monopolies and their unchecked accumulation of power: four companies pick who wins and loses out in the economy. Critically, John Oliver pointed out that “If [these bills] don’t pass in the next month or so, they’re not likely to pass at all.”2 These are modest bills with clear benefits: Big Tech will have to stop their self-dealing so that consumers and small businesses have choices about the tech they use and trust. We may never be able to outspend Big Tech, but we can do something by making our voices heard. If you believe that Amazon shouldn’t be the marketplace or that Google shouldn’t control search (while hoarding all your data), then will you chip in $3, $10, or $36 RIGHT NOW to keep up the pressure on lawmakers to vote on these bills?
It’s only with your support that we can organize coalitions and build technology to connect you to lawmakers. Back in April, we connected more than 3,100 calls to Congress and facilitated over 66,000 emails to lawmakers in support of antitrust action. We gotta get louder. Starting Tuesday, June 21, we’ve organized a massive coalition to heat up #AntitrustSummer. This is it. Let’s make lawmakers sweat and make sure they know that together we support legislation that reins in Big Tech.
