Hello, Friends —
This week in Congress, the House of Representatives considered three major Democratic bills, which I regret to inform you, passed along partisan lines. One thing to keep in mind is that most of my Democrat colleagues bills' titles sound infinitely better than what they prescribe to do:
H.R. 2773, the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, would further fund the Department of the Interior to make grants available for wildlife conservation among the states. Here's the problem: this calls for $5.6 billion of taxpayer dollars over the next 5 years and $12.7 billion over the next 10 years. This is increasing America's budget deficits at the very worst time. In Florida, we work to conserve integral wildlife at the state level, we don't need to get on the hook—to the tune of $12 billion—to pay for the problems of other states, leaving us in the dust.
H.R. 2543, the Financial Services Racial Equity, Inclusion, and Economic Justice Act, is one of the worst bills passed in the 117th Congress. This woke Finance bill seeks to amend the 1913 Federal Reserve Act so that the Fed shifts its focus from keeping prices stable for all to prescribing its monetary policy power to "ensure equity," which is not the duty of the Fed. The purpose of the Fed is to regulate the price of money, not prescribe tailor-made outcomes for certain groups by adjusting interest rates and printing money. H.R. 2543 would also dictate "diversity and inclusion ratings" for banks, create a map of only minority-owned banks, force mortgage institutions to make all their documents in 8 languages, and more! As you know, I voted NO on this bill.
H.R. 7606, the Lower Food and Fuel Costs Act, would see the appointment of a special investigator to "investigate" what's triggering the gradual price increases of food. Rather than reeling-in spending or considering real economic data, the Democrats' solution to a problem they have engendered is to create more government! I fervently voted No on this measure. While we can all agree that inflation is seeing prices increase everywhere, including our supermarkets, more federal government will never be the critical solution we need. Big, misguided government spending causes bigger problems.

AROUND THE DISTRICT
GAETZ TO OFFER NDAA AMENDMENT TO REINSTATE ARMED SERVICE MEMBERS WHO REFUSED VACCINE
Next week, the House Armed Services Committee will be marking-up the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which is a vast reauthorization program that fills the needs of our men and women in the armed services. I am excited to announce and it is important for you to know that along with other amendments on behalf of Florida's First District, I will be introducing an amendment that 1) protects armed services members who refuse to receive a COVID-19 vaccine; 2) reinstates members at the same rank and grade who were dismissed for refusal to take the vaccine; and 3) provide back pay and benefits to those very members who were dismissed. I stand strong for our service members and continue to stand for your individual health care rights! Stay tuned next week.
MOBILE OFFICE HOURS WERE A SUCCESS
I'm excited to announce that my district office here in Northwest Florida had a very successful event yesterday at our three Mobile Office Hours locations! We had constituents between the three locations in Milton, Niceville, and Freeport, where we managed several cases that were related to DOD and VA casework issues. I heard that constituents were happy to see my hard-working team in the district office, who were certainly proud and excited to further assist them!
HURRICAN SEASON IN NW FLORIDA
As Floridians certainly know, the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with the peak occurring between mid-August and late October. Here are some tips to safely prepare for the season:
Prepare a kit. Ensure you and your family have a disaster kit ready to go in case of an emergency. For more information on items to include in a kit, visit Ready.gov/hurricanes for preparedness tips.
Get to know your surroundings. Know the elevation of your house and property. Hurricanes often bring storm surge, which is considered the greatest threat to property and life during any tropical storm. Know your communities’ evacuation routes and how you would evacuate to higher ground. For more information on potential storm surge areas visit NOAA’s storm surge site.
Consistently check the weather. The Coast Guard's mobile app for boating safety is a tool to check marine weather from your phone. With the mobile app, you can check the weather at nearby NOAA buoys, which provide wind speed and direction along with wave height. Checking weather any time you plan to get underway and throughout your time on the water is highly recommended.
Secure your boats. Review your hurricane plan with your local marina, ensure you have a plan to both bring your boat in and strap it down ashore or ensure it is properly equipped to ride out the storm at the marina.
Listen to local officials. When it comes to hurricane response and preparedness, the most important link in the chain is you: prepare your boat for the season, have a hurricane mooring plan and monitor channel 16 on your VHF radio when on the water. Prior to planning a trip, keep an eye on the weather, port conditions, and other hurricane warnings.
