| | | Texas Values Testifies to Protect Civic Responsibility and Religious Freedom Education in Texas High Schools This week, Mary Elizabeth Castle, Senior Policy Advisor for Texas Values testified in front of the Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) to protect civic responsibility and religious freedom education in Texas high schools. Mary Elizabeth said, “Students should be taught accurate and fair historical events. Religious historical figures like Moses and the exact words of the Establishment clause should not be removed from the classroom. Students have a right to know American founding principles and the foundations of how to be good citizens." SBOE, which oversees all 1,200 school districts in Texas, is reviewing high school Social Studies standards. The first vote on the high school Social Studies standards will be in September 2022 and the final vote will be in November 2022. For more information on these recommendations, please contact Texas Values at [email protected]. Click here for the full story. |
| | | Austin School District Votes on Sex Education Next Week Austin ISD Board of Trustees met last week and received a presentation from the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) on recommendations for human sexuality courses for Kindergarten through high school students. The SHAC plans to teach sex-ed for kids as young as Kindergarten, which is only five years old. The curriculum includes gender neutral language and concepts. Students are learning about “consent” in grades as early as third and fifth. The Texas State Board of Education voted against having the topic of consent taught to any student, due to the fact that minors cannot legally consent to sexual activity. The Austin ISD school board will vote on the curriculum on June 23. If your children attend Austin ISD, please get involved. The SBOE will be having a special meeting on the Social Studies standards where Kindergarten through 7th standards will be added to the discussion and the board plans to go more in depth on the 8th -12th grade standards on August 1. |
| | The End of Roe is in Sight as Pro-Lifers Await a Decision in Dobbs The United States Supreme Court did not issue a decision to overturn Roe v. Wade this week. However, they did release several opinions, with only eighteen remaining to release before the end of their term. Pro-lifers have been praying at the U.S. Supreme Court on an ongoing basis for a good outcome in the Dobbs v. Jackson decision. In May, a leaked document from the Court suggested that it is likely to overturn the 1973 decision that legalized abortion throughout the nation. Texas Values is calling on all Americans to pray for the overturning of Roe and a swift decision in the Dobbs case. Get more pro-life news from Texas Values at this link.
