Friend,

We’ve seen the sad cycle so many times – a mass shooting, followed by a call to action, followed by the same tired political squabbling and the failure to move anything forward. 

But as I write in this op-ed in The Hill, this time is different. After the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas, that state’s conservative Republican Sen. John Cornyn defied the extremists in his party and went to work with senators from both sides of the aisle, from all perspectives on gun policy, to forge a commonsense package that can actually get 60 votes in the Senate. 

I take hope in Sen. Cornyn’s actions – not just because he’s getting the people’s business done, but because he is proving that two-party solutions are still possible. Please read my piece, and let me know what you think.
