One of my priorities this year was to create a statewide, white-collar law enforcement agency. I am proud to report that we got the job done with a heavy investment in the Commerce Fraud Bureau, providing new powers to investigate financial crimes such as wage theft, fraud, labor trafficking, and more. This is a huge deal. All across the state, white-collar crimes are in desperate need of more enforcement, with it being hard for departments used to dealing with violent crime to handle white-collar crime appropriately. Prosecution of the cases often last a long time and they?re often multi-jurisdictional. This is a huge step in the right direction and I am proud to have brought this across the finish line.
Congratulations to all of the local graduating students. Obtaining a diploma required many hours of classroom study and a commitment on your part to accomplish this goal. You should be commended for a job well done.
As you leave high school behind and prepare to face new challenges, the skills you acquired in high school will become more and more important to you. I hope you will use these skills to meet these challenges and contribute to the betterment of our society.
Best wishes in your future endeavors and congratulations, again, upon your graduation.
