Happy Pride Month, John! 

In June, we honor our rich and vibrant LGBTQI+ community, reflect on our past, and recommit ourselves to the work still ahead of us. This week, I was humbled to attend a pride event at the White House where President Biden announced a Historic Executive Order Advancing Equality for LGBTQI+ Individuals.

No one should face discrimination because of who they are or whom they love, and I’m grateful President Biden has the LGBTQI+ community’s back. In recent months, we’ve seen a rise in hateful, transphobic, and homophobic legislation by Republicans. Clearly, our work is far from over. The importance of electing Democrats to defend LGBTQI+ Americans can not be understated.

Pride month is a celebration but also serves as a call to action, and I hope you’ll join me in making a contribution to elect Democrats who will continue to take bold action in the fight for full equality for LGBTQI+ Americans. 

I was thrilled to join President Biden, members of the administration, and leaders in the LGBTQ community for this historic moment.

What does President Biden’s Executive Order do?

President Biden’s Executive Order builds on the historic progress his administration and the Democrats have made for LGBTQI+ people by:

• Addressing discriminatory legislative attacks against LGBTQI+ children and families, directing key agencies to protect families and children; 
• Preventing so-called “conversion therapy” with a historic initiative to protect children from the harmful practice;
• Safeguarding health care, and programs designed to prevent youth suicide;
• Supporting LGBTQI+ children and families by launching a new initiative to protect foster youth, prevent homelessness, and improve access to federal programs; and
• Taking new, additional steps to advance LGBTQI+ equality.
