In this week's roundup: Bolstering Iowa's biofuels industry, my work as a fiscal conservative in Congress, and testifying before the International Trade Commission on skyrocketing fertilizer prices. Dear Friend, In this week's roundup: Bolstering Iowa's biofuels industry, my work as a fiscal conservative in Congress, and testifying before the International Trade Commission on skyrocketing fertilizer prices. SUPPORTING IOWA'S BIOFUELS INDUSTRY AND FIGHTING FOR E-15 SALES YEAR-ROUND I'm proud that five pieces of bipartisan legislation I helped introduce to support our biofuels industry and our family farmers passed the House yesterday. The bipartisan packaged included bills to allow for year-round E-15 sales, strengthen our agricultural and food supply chains, invest in precision agriculture technologies, and support higher blends of biofuels at gas stations in the 4th District. Speaking to hardworking farmers and biofuels producers back home, I know that Iowa ethanol and biodiesel can lower gas prices and make our country energy independent again. This legislation gives our biofuels producers the support they need to unleash greater production and give Iowans a cheaper, cleaner option at the pump. TESTIFYING BEFORE THE INTERNATIONAL TRADE COMMISSION Yesterday, I testified before the U.S. International Trade Commission - a federal agency that advises the legislative and executive branches on trade-related matters - on the skyrocketing cost of fertilizer for American farmers. As the second largest congressional district in terms of Agricultural Products Sold, our farmers and producers in the 4th District rely on stable prices for inputs like fertilizer to grow their crop and feed the country and the world. Congress has various tools at its disposal to help lower input costs in the medium and long term, and I continue to work with my colleagues to find solutions. MY WORK AS A FISCAL CONSERVATIVE IN CONGRESS I'm honored that the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget - an organization that advocates for fiscal responsibility in Congress - recognized my work as a 2022 Fiscal Hero. As a strong, fiscal conservative, I came to Congress to end wasteful spending and fight for Iowa taxpayers. Representing the hardworking folks of the 4th District, I will continue to oppose reckless spending, fight inflation, and work to reduce our crippling $30 trillion debt. I will continue to work to deliver results for our agricultural community and our families in Iowa. PROTECTING OUR SUPREME COURT JUSTICES AND THEIR FAMILIES On Tuesday, I voted for the Supreme Court Police Parity Act to ensure that Supreme Court Justices and their families receive the protection they deserve amid alarming calls for violence against the Court. Our government relies on an independent judiciary to properly function, and intimidation of any sort erodes the autonomy of this important institution.
