This country has a serious, deep-seated issue. Gun violence is now the leading cause of death for children, above anything else, and, frankly, it's making me sick.
I just found out about a song they're teaching kids in school to prep for lockdowns in the case of school shooters. It has a few variations, but it's usually along these lines:
What kind of country are we where our schoolchildren are learning nursery rhymes about their own demise? Where sick, twisted individuals have all the power they need to kill kids whenever they want, and the best we can do is teach a song?
Something needs to change. Now. Guns can't be banned, but we need to seriously revisit every law around the ease of acquisition for firearms. The gun lobby needs to lose its ironclad grasp on our country. Otherwise, our children will just have to keep singing.
