This week was the 50th Anniversary of the Watergate break-in when an observant nightshift guard caught six men breaking into a suite at a DC waterfront hotel to ‘bug’ the phones of the Democratic National Committee. The investigation into that break-in, and the coordinated, subversive campaign to hold onto power that spawned it, was the biggest political scandal in our history.

That is: until Donald Trump came along.

Trump and his allies were not just willing to abuse their power to impact the outcome of our election — they were willing to ‘overturn’ the legitimate result of the people’s vote in 2020. And they were prepared to use any means possible — even brute force by right-wing extremists — to stop the Congressional certification of our election results and block the democratic process.

Maybe one of the biggest differences with Watergate is that the overwhelming majority of the Republican Party is not interested in holding Trump and his co-conspirators accountable for their actions. Even yesterday, after witnesses told us that Vice President Mike Pence was literally at grave personal risk of attack on January 6th, Pence would not agree to participate himself in the 1/6 Committees’ proceedings to get to the bottom of what happened that day.

We need that accountability.

Click here to send a message that we must hold Trump and his co-conspirators accountable in order to support the rule of law and take action to make sure this doesn’t happen again. [[link removed]]

The January 6 conspiracy was about helping Trump hold onto power illegally. If those involved are not held to account our democracy will be permanently at risk.

Onwards.

Chris
