Happy Father's Day!
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I want to wish all the Fathers and Grandfathers a very happy Father's Day! Thank you for all you do for your families! I hope everyone can enjoy some extra family time this weekend ? and stay cool on Sunday!
Executive Summary
* *No Special Session*
* *Hometown Heroes Act*
* *Frontline Worker Pay Applications Now Open!*
No Special Session
Yesterday, special session negotiations reached an impasse. Democrats wanted billions in new spending proposals in a non-budget year in exchange for $4 billion in tax cuts. Our state has a historic surplus.? We also have the 5th highest income tax rate in the country and are only one of 12 states that still taxes Social Security income.
While Minnesotans face record inflation, gas prices, and energy costs, we should focus on providing permanent tax cuts so families can keep more of what they earn to make ends meet. Any spending should be focused on where there is greatest need, like addressing public safety or the nursing home crisis.?
Next year, Republicans will deliver historic tax cuts for all Minnesotans and prioritize spending on needs while also prioritizing accountability for how taxpayers? money is spent.?
Hometown Heroes Act
Robbins with firefighters
Last year the state legislature passed the Hometown Heroes Assistance Program (HHAP). This program provides $4 million per year to ensure that every Minnesota firefighter has access to the education, prevention and care needed to handle a cardiac, emotional trauma or cancer diagnosis.
The following resources are available to all active volunteer, paid-on-call, part-time and full-time Minnesota firefighters for?*free*:
* *MnFIRE Assistance Program* [ [link removed] ]?with expanded emotional trauma resources.
* Up-to-$20,000?*Critical Illness insurance* [ [link removed] ]?policy.
* Ongoing health and wellness?*training.* [ [link removed] ]
I was proud to support this bill and strongly encourage all our firefighters to utilize these resources. You can learn more?here [ [link removed] ]. Thank you for all you do to keep our communities safe!
Frontline Worker Pay Applications Are Now Open!
*Applications for Minnesota?s Frontline Worker Pay bonuses opened on Wednesday?and applications can be submitted through July 22, 2022.*? The website has had some initial problems but, since the program is NOT a first-come, first-served process,?*all qualified applications received by July 22nd?will receive the payments.*
The amount of the payments will depend on the total number of qualified applicants, who will all receive an equal amount from the $500 million program.
Minnesota?s nurses, long term care workers, first responders, and other frontline workers risked their lives throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to care for their communities. I encourage all frontline workers to check their eligibility and apply for these funds as a thank you for their service to our state during that unprecedented time.
Visit?*frontlinepay.mn.gov* [ [link removed] ]?for information regarding eligibility and to apply. You can also check out the?Frontline Worker Toolkit [ [link removed] ]?which has information and resources for both employers and prospective applicants.
