Dear John,
Make your first gift to the NhRP on this special day of giving, Giving Tuesday, and support us in our mission to change the world for nonhuman animals.
We at the Nonhuman Rights Project know that real, lasting legal change for nonhuman animals can only come about in one way: when we fight for recognition and protection of their rights, beginning with great apes, elephants, dolphins, and whales’ right to liberty.
Simply put, animal welfare laws aren’t enough to protect members of other species from human-caused harm. Ethically and legally, nonhuman beings like our elephant client Happy—currently imprisoned alone in a holding facility at the Bronx Zoo while the elephant exhibit is closed for the winter—deserve so much more than to suffer as legal “things” with no rights.
With the right to liberty, Happy’s world will fundamentally change. Instead of living in solitary confinement in a tiny exhibit, she’ll be able to roam freely with sun overhead and grass underfoot in the company of other elephants in a sanctuary designed to respect her autonomy.
When one day all elephants have the right to liberty, it won’t be possible for anyone, for any reason, to imprison and exploit them, and we’ll be able to ensure they survive and thrive where they belong—in their natural habitats.
On this Giving Tuesday, please help the Nonhuman Rights Project build a more just world for all and give back to nonhuman animals the freedom, peace, and dignity that human beings and human institutions have unjustly taken from them.
Thank you for caring and for making your first gift today.
With gratitude,
Kevin Schneider
