Dear Friend,
We invite you to join us at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, DC, this Tuesday, at 11:00 am ET, for the launch of our newest report, After Confucius Institutes: China's Enduring Influence on Higher Education. If you can't attend in-person, you can watch the event online!
Confucius Institutes, once a strategic part of China’s overseas influence campaign, have almost disappeared from the United States: 104 of 118 have shut down. But the demise of Confucius Institutes has not deterred the Chinese government, which has persuaded American colleges and universities to reopen and rebrand Confucius Institute programs under new names.
A new report from the National Association of Scholars, After Confucius Institutes: China's Enduring Influence on American Higher Education, documents the new ways in which the Chinese government exerts undue influence on American colleges and universities.
The keynote speaker will be Representative Jim Banks, Chairman of the Republican Study Committee. The event will also feature Walter Lohman, Director of the Asian Studies Center at the Heritage Foundation; Keith Whitaker, Chairman of the National Association of Scholars; Rachelle Peterson, Senior Research Fellow at the National Association of Scholars and coauthor of After Confucius Institutes; and Michael Sobolik, Fellow in Indo-Pacific Studies at the American Foreign Policy Council.
