Dear John,

This week we found out that Britain is set for lower growth than every major economy except Russia; and for ordinary working families, times are set to get tougher. 

What is becoming clearer and clearer is that the Government has no plan. At PMQs this week, when challenged by Keir Starmer, Boris Johnson had no response. 

During this cost of living crisis, the Government should be using taxpayers' money wisely. They should be seeking to help those who are most in need and who are more vulnerable. Instead, they are giving rebates to those with second and third homes and when challenged about this, are simply advising those homeowners to pass it on to charity. This is outrageous.  

The cost of living crisis demands serious solutions. That's why the Labour Party forced the Government to u-turn on the windfall tax. It’s why we're calling for an emergency budget to stabilise the economy. And it’s why we’ve called for the government to publish an industrial strategy to create good jobs and give people the skills to get back in to work.

As well making sure our constituents’ voice is heard in Westminster, as usual I have been out and about in the constituency. This week I joined Woodcock Hill Primary students as part of the Commonwealth Games’ programme, Bring the Power.

Here students were taught about the contribution to sport from different countries around the world. I was really impressed by all the children and how much they knew about which countries were better at different sports and their history. 

I also joined with Friends of Senneleys Park to hear about the work they have done to protect a fantastic community asset and fight for the improvements it needs to make it cleaner and safer for all. I look forward to lending my support to the Friends so that we see the changes that will be a better reflection of our local area. 

This week the Government attempted to launch their abhorrent policy that would see refugees handcuffed to the seats of charter planes and deported to Rwanda.

This is a policy that simply won’t work. It won’t tackle the smuggler gangs. It won’t address the backlog of Home Office cases. And it’s an exorbitant waste of money.

Despite being warned that their plan wouldn't work, the Government thought it was appropriate to spend half a million pounds during a cost of living crisis to privately charter a plane that didn't take off. That is not to mention the £120 million cheque it has handed to the Rwandan government with the promise of more to come. Meanwhile Priti Patel is drawing up plans to cut staff by 20% at the National Crime Agency, whose job it is to intercept dangerous people smugglers.

The Rwanda plan is unworkable, unethical, and profoundly un-British. This is government by gimmick. Our country deserves better.
