Dear John, This week we found out that Britain is set for lower growth than every major economy except Russia; and for ordinary working families, times are set to get tougher. What is becoming clearer and clearer is that the Government has no plan. At PMQs this week, when challenged by Keir Starmer, Boris Johnson had no response. During this cost of living crisis, the
Government should be using taxpayers' money wisely. They should be seeking to help those who are most in need and who are more vulnerable. Instead, they are giving rebates to those with second and third homes and when challenged about this, are simply advising those homeowners to pass it on to charity. This is outrageous. The cost of living crisis demands serious solutions. That's why the Labour Party forced the Government to u-turn on the windfall tax. It’s why we're calling for an emergency budget to stabilise the economy. And it’s why we’ve called for the government to publish an industrial strategy to create good jobs and give people the skills to get back in to work. Following Prime Minister’s Questions this week, I joined the Politics Live panel to respond. You can watch it here from 1:22:30. |
