Nancy Pelosi Brings "Diversity and Inclusion" Bill to the House Floor While Americans Suffer Economic Hardship Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap on what happened this week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington Nancy Pelosi Brings "Diversity and Inclusion" Bill to the House Floor While Americans Suffer Economic Hardship This week in Washington, Democrats showed just how out of touch they are to the multiple crises the American people are facing. Instead of considering legislation that addresses inflation, gas prices, food shortages, or the border—they considered the Financial Services Racial Equity, Inclusion, and Economic Justice Act, a woke virtue-signaling bill that will mandate that the Federal Reserve, the primary federal agency responsible for combatting inflation, shift its focus to advance their woke social agenda. Right now, you are paying 8.6% more on everything and filling up your car for over FIVE DOLLARS per gallon, and Democrats do not care. They are trying to distract you from their failures by advancing their woke agenda, attacking second amendment rights, and continuing the witch-hunt against President Trump. The country is in disarray thanks to their failed policies. Middle class families must choose between buying groceries and filling up their car. Mothers can’t feed their babies. Our streets are being overrun by cartel members and drug traffickers who are walking through our Southern Border unchecked and unchallenged—all thanks to Democrat leadership in Washington. While Democrats continue to divide and destroy our country, Republicans are holding them accountable. The economic burden Democrats have placed on American families MUST END. It is past time that Congress places the interests of the American people FIRST Introduced Legislation to End a Biden Administration Loophole for Illegal Immigration This week, I introduced H.R. 8119, the Asylum Claims Improvement Act of 2022, which would prevent judges from taking into account the mental health of an illegal alien convicted of an aggravated felony when considering their asylum claim or whether to withhold their removal. Last month, Attorney General Merrick Garland ruled that "In some circumstances, a respondent’s mental health condition may indicate that the respondent does not pose a danger to the community,” and determined it was appropriate to overrule a prior decision that found mental health should not be considered when determining the seriousness of a crime. Although the Immigration and Nationality Act makes illegal immigrants ineligible for both asylum and withholding of removal if they have been convicted of a "particularly serious crime" that constitutes a danger to the community, Biden's top attorney created a loophole for felons to claim "mental illness" and avoid deportation. America is already facing an immigration crisis and a mental health crisis, we cannot exacerbate both by giving criminal immigrants who claim mental illness a free pass into our country. This is common sense for most Americans, but not AG Garland. His decision to require judges to take into account mental health factors of dangerous immigrant criminals will not be tolerated. Time after time, the Biden administration has shown they have no interest in stopping the border crisis, in fact, their policies indicate that they welcome it. If the Biden Administration won’t act, Republicans will. Read more about my bill here. Introduced a Bill to Stop Disney's Abuse of National Security Laws and Remove Their "No-Fly Zone" This week, I introduced H.R. 8042, the Airlines Independent of Restrictions Act (AIR) Act, which directs the Secretary of Transportation to rescind the two “no-fly zone” Notice to Airman (NOTAM’s) over Disneyland and Disneyworld. While most flight restricted areas in the United States reside over places of high security or hazardous regions, Disney is the only theme park that benefits from the restriction for the commercial gains of eliminating banner ads and disruptive aircrafts from their parks. The federal government should not grant special privileges and pick favorites for powerful well-connected companies like Disney. Measures designed to protect our national security and public safety should not be co-opted by corporations looking to gain. The fact that Disney is the only corporate resort benefiting from this national security law should tell you all you need to know—Disney’s deep pockets are manipulating the federal government. Ending Washington corruption starts by removing Congress from the payroll of corporate giants and breaking the quid-pro-quo system, especially when it does nothing to benefit the American people. I am proud to introduce a bill that takes one step further in dismantling the Washington swamp. Read more about my bill here.
