Hey John xxxxxx!
Last weekend we had the joy of marching in two different local Pride events. We want to say thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate Pride at our event in Port Washington, and marched with us at Long Island Pride.
Unfortunately our happiness was tempered by the fact that the LGBTQ+ community is under attack all around the country. From bigoted sports bans to legislation preventing queer history from being taught in schools, conservatives are hell-bent on erasing the existence of LGBTQ+ identities.
Federal laws supersede state laws, which means Congress can directly undo this damage being done by homophobic and transphobic Republican state legislatures.
We have a moral obligation to protect the LGBTQ+ community — our friends, family and neighbors. As a co-founder of an LGBTQ+ non-profit, Melanie takes protecting these lives seriously. In Congress, she will always fight to ensure the equality and safety of our LGBTQ+ communities by:
- Passing the Equality Act to finally ban discrimination based on gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation in employment, housing, education, public accommodations, federally funded programs, credit, and jury duty.
-
Eliminating bans on blood donations from gay, bisexual, and queer individuals.
- Ending discrimination in adoption and healthcare.
-
Supporting LGBTQ+ youth by ending discrimination in housing and banning conversion therapy nationwide.
-
Creating more government acknowledgment of the LGBTQ+ community, including updating government-created job applications and census questionnaires, and providing additional funding for issues pertaining to the community.
Help give NY-03 a champion for LGBTQ+ rights in Congress: pitch in whatever you can today to support Melanie so she can fight for each and every one of us.
Because equality is non-negotiable.
