Dear John,
Great news! Yesterday, members of both parties came together to secure a major victory in our work to bring down prices for working families. The Lower Food and Fuel Costs Act, which passed with bipartisan support, includes two critical pieces of bipartisan legislation that I introduced as part of my ongoing effort to lower prices for Minnesotans.
First, the package included the Year-Round Fuel Choice Act, which will allow for the year-round sale of homegrown biofuels which can sell for as much as 40 cents less per gallon than traditional gasoline! I’ve made this cost-saving effort a top priority because I believe that we need to chart a new, ‘all of the above’ energy future: one that creates jobs, protects American energy independence and lowers prices at the pump – all while responding to the challenges of global climate change.
The bipartisan package also included my Strengthening the Agriculture and Food Supply Chain Act, which will help to lower prices at the grocery store by getting products from ships to shelves faster and shoring up our food supply chain for future generations.
I know that we need to use every tool at our disposal to lower costs for working Americans. We should be focused on those issues today – and every day. And that’s why I’m so proud to have helped get this critical bill across the finish line in Washington.
Here are some of the other highlights from this week:
Supporting Minnesota Businesses:
Glad to meet with folks from the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce in DC this week to talk about how Congress can continue to support the needs of Minnesota businesses. Thanks for stopping by!
Connecting with Parents and Teachers:
I met up with the Minnesota PTA this week in Washington to discuss our shared priorities of ensuring access to a high-quality education and safe learning environments for students across Minnesota!
Keeping Up with a Cool Cat:
I had a stowaway with me on the way back to DC this week. Sophie joined me for the week as my purrrsonal assistant!
Behind the Scenes in Washington:
This chalkboard hangs near the door of my office. It’s how my staff and I keep track of gas and commodities prices – so we know how these prices are affecting folks in MN02. Every morning, the first thing my staff does is update this board – so that we can rededicate ourselves to lowering the price of gas in this country and supporting Minnesota’s amazing family farmers.
I am so glad I got to greet you with good news this week. And I can’t wait to continue my efforts to lower costs for working families when Congress is back in session next week. Thanks for tuning in!
Until next time,
Angie Craig
Member of Congress
