Thank You to Our Community of Supporters: Massiel’s Story

NVFS is so grateful for the support of people like you, who contribute both time and resources because you are committed to helping all families in Northern Virginia thrive.

At the NVFS Road to Independence Gala last month, hundreds of donors and supporters gathered to celebrate this commitment. One of the biggest highlights of the evening was Massiel Morales' story, which NVFS is honored to be a part of.

NVFS Legal Services helped Massiel’s mother navigate the complicated American immigration system and helped them earn green cards and citizenship. Massiel said their NVFS attorney advocated for her family, making sure they received what they needed. Massiel was inspired to study government and international relations at the College of William and Mary and has plans to become a lawyer.

Massiel is one of many young people that NVFS helps realize their full potential. Without your generosity, we wouldn’t be able to do this work.

Support people and families in Northern Virginia by making an annual contribution. Thank you again for your ongoing support.

Volunteer Spotlight: Amazon Web Services Team Supports NVFS

Thank you to Amazon Web Services (AWS) InCommunities for supporting Northern Virginia Family Service with both financial and people power!  Volunteering is core to the culture of AWS, with team members participating in a number of projects across NVFS programs. A team from AWS prepared the Training Futures office suite for painting and put the office back together after it was painted.  An AWS team also spruced up the SERVE Campus.  An AWS group also has a monthly volunteer date at the NVFS Clock Tower Thrift Store and are providing in-kind donations to support important facility updates.  As you can see, AWS has a standout crew that gets the work done! Many thanks to our dedicated Amazon Web Services volunteers. Visit the NVFS Volunteer page to learn more about volunteering opportunities.

Calling all Heroes, the NVFS Back2School Drive is Back!

We need your help! It’s no secret that money is tight for many families during the Back to School season. This makes school supplies a luxury for a family struggling to pay their bills. A backpack full of new school supplies can give children the confidence they need to begin the school year right and help ease the financial burden for their families.

Check out these three easy ways to help prepare the children from NVFS programs.

Donate today!

Shop for school supplies from our official list and drop them off during our donation drop-off days on Wednesday, July 27 from 9am-1pm or Thursday, July 28 from 1pm-5pm at our Back2School HQ in Fairfax. Visit our website in mid July for the address announcement.

Volunteer to help us sort supplies and stuff backpacks between July 27 and August 11. Please contact Karen Horowitz, NVFS director of community and volunteer engagement.

YOUR support of the Back2School drive will make a tangible impact on a student’s success, both in the classroom and beyond.

Volunteer Spotlight: Deloitte Impact Day

Thank you to Deloitte for volunteering at NVFS during Deloitte Impact Day. The Deloitte team refreshed the SERVE Garden by removing leaves and weeds and planting new bushes and flowers. They assembled 400 STEM kits to help NVFS Head Start students learn about science and math. Lastly, volunteers also organized donations and updated fitting rooms at the NVFS Clock Tower Thrift Store. We are grateful to Deloitte volunteers for supporting children and families in Northern Virginia and for making an #ImpactThatMatters. View pictures from Deloitte’s Impact Day.
