While students are getting out of school for their summer break, we’re still hard at work on making schools safer and advocating for firearm safety measures.

Dear friends,

The official start to summer is right around the corner – and while students are getting out of school for their summer break, we're still hard at work on making schools safer and advocating for firearm safety measures.

With kids spending more time at home for the summer, now is a good time to brush up on safe firearm storage to ensure that children are safe. Here are some key guidelines to keep in mind for responsible and safe storage:

  • Unloaded firearms should be stored in a locked cabinet, safe, gun vault or storage case.

  • Gun locking devices render firearms inoperable and can be used in addition to locked storage.

  • Ammunition should be stored in a locked location separate from firearms.

  • Immediately return firearms to storage after use. Delay could lead to disaster.

Gun safety is as easy as 1, 2, 3! (1) Do not touch the gun. (2) Do not let your friends touch the gun. (3) Go get an adult. / With these three simple steps, you can be a hero and prevent a tragedy.

Responsible firearms ownership means following the laws and requirements designed to keep us all safe. An encouraging development of late was President Joe Biden's executive orders regulating "ghost guns."

These new regulations will make untraceable, homemade firearms illegal. They will also make it harder for dangerous individuals to acquire firearms and easier for law enforcement to identify a weapon's owner.

After tragedies like the Brooklyn shooting in which the NYPD relied on the firearm's serial number to identify the shooter, the need for these regulatory safeguards cannot be overstated. We applaud President Biden for this crucial step forward!

Recently, our president Tony Montalto spoke with Jackie Nespral on NBC 6 to discuss these executive orders. Watch the interview here:

Out of a tragedy in Florida, we have grown into a national organization working tirelessly to make our schools safer across the country. Continuing to grow our reach, we recently met with state legislators in Pennsylvania to work together on measures to improve the safety of schools throughout the state.

On behalf of State Representative Maureen Madden, PA Northeast Delegation Director Geoff Morrow sat down with our president Tony Montalto to discuss some of our work. Watch the interview here:

Refresh your summer wardrobe with clothes from our online store! 100% of the proceeds go directly towards our advocacy for safer schools.

We're making progress on the local, state, and federal levels – but as seen last month in Texas, there is still so much work to be done, friends. If you are able, please consider donating to support our work. Every dollar has a real impact on school safety in our country.
