Hi, John.
This is it. A window to fix our democracy is now finally opening. The last three years have been a bottoming-out moment for our political system. But such moments are followed by periods of recovery and action. And that’s what’s happening all across America right now.
Poll after poll shows overwhelming public support for fixing our political system. Every week, we see more signs of change on Capitol Hill — like nothing I’ve witnessed since I came to Washington. Americans are ready for a historic reset — and Congress is beginning to listen.
2020 and beyond is our democracy moment. Help us seize it. In the spirit of Giving Tuesday, please make a special year-end gift to Issue One today. Your support has helped us at Issue One be at the center of the action — and your support will be even more vital to ensure that we continue to see the change we need in Washington.
We’ve accomplished a lot together:
Protecting U.S. elections. We moved Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on election security funding (to the tune of $250 million).
Restructuring the way Congress works. We helped initiate (and extend!) the bipartisan Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress through 2020.
Uniting Republicans and Democrats around money-in-politics reform legislation. All 8 of Issue One’s bills in the House and Senate have been crafted in a bipartisan manner — these bills have the best opportunity to pass (and be protected) in a divided government.
Activating champions of reform in all 50 states. Our ReFormers Caucus has united over 200 former members of Congress, governors, and Cabinet officials who together promote bipartisan solutions on Capitol Hill.
Passing reforms. We led the charge to unite senators and reformers behind the Senate Campaign Disclosure Parity Act — to make Senate campaign finance more transparent — and won. It became the first bipartisan reform signed into law in a DECADE.
To win in 2020, we need you. Please click here to make your gift today.
You’ve been incredible partners in Issue One’s work. You’ve given your time, your thoughts, your energy, and on days like today, you’ve given generously — all to make sure America not just survives the current mess we’re in, but emerges as an even stronger democracy in the wake of it. Thank you.
All the best,
Nick
