John,
Many electric utility companies — most of which are monopolies — are fighting the transition to renewable energy because they’re afraid of losing power and profit. To preserve the status quo, they’re resorting to anti-competitive, anti-democratic practices that harm communities, our climate and our democracy.
Monopoly utilities are raising rates, stunting the expansion of rooftop solar, exerting influence on elections that stifle renewable energy efforts, all while speeding us towards climate catastrophe and exacerbating energy injustice.
It’s time to fight back.
The Federal Trade Commission has the power to hold these corporations accountable by launching an investigation into their abuses of power. In fact, there’s historical precedent for this. From 1928 to 1935, the commission’s investigations of the industry spurred legislation that kept misdeeds at bay. These laws were unfortunately repealed in 2005 and have opened the door to concerning utility practices.
Tell the Federal Trade Commission to launch an investigation to protect people, the planet and our democracy.
