Abortions in South Dakota Come to an End

Life News: South Dakota is now abortion free. The Plains state has become the second in the nation to not have any operating abortion centers as the last abortion business, run by Planned Parenthood in Sioux Falls, has stopped killing babies in abortions. South Dakota follows Oklahoma as the second abortion free state in America after its Governor Kevin Stitt signed a Texas-style bill banning aboritons starting at conception with a private enforcement mechanism. Texas was the first state to ban aboritons but its abortion ban starts when the heartbeat of the unborn baby is detectable, at approximately six weeks, so not all abortions are banned (Life News). Governor Kristi Noem: Abortions have stopped in South Dakota. We have prayed for this day, and now it is here. Now, we must redouble our focus on taking care of mothers in crisis. Help is available for you. Adoption is an option. You are never alone (Twitter).

European Leaders Support Ukraine’s Interest in Joining EU

Washington Post: The leaders of the European Union’s three largest economies on Thursday said they were backing Ukraine’s candidacy to join the 27-member bloc, a move that President Volodymyr Zelensky has fiercely advocated as his country loses ground in the face of Russia’s invasion. The announcement came during the first wartime visit to Kyiv by French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, who traveled to the city on an overnight train. Romanian President Klaus Iohannis joined them there (Washington Post). Politico: The EU will likely request strict requirements on democratic and institutional reforms, such as the fight against corruption, as part of the EU enlargement process. Ukraine will also probably have to first reach a peace agreement with Russia before any talks with the EU could begin. The European Commission is expected to officially recommend granting Ukraine and Moldova the membership candidacy on Friday, but it is up to EU countries to make a final decision. EU leaders will meet in Brussels next week on Thursday and Friday to discuss the issue (Politico).

Pro-Life Leaders Pen Letter to AG Garland Demanding Action Against Pro-Abortion Terror Group

National Review: A coalition of pro-life organizations sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland Thursday demanding action to address the recent wave of pro-abortion terrorism and intimidation. In a letter organized by the non-profit CatholicVote, 25 pro-life leaders, mostly think tank presidents, called the Justice Department’s attention to the many attacks on pregnancy centers, churches, and even Supreme Court justices that have occurred since the Dobbs majority opinion leak last month (National Review). Fox News: The pro-choice group “Jane’s Revenge” has recently taken credit for attacks on pro-life organizations, including for the attack on Wisconsin Family Action last month and throwing red paint on a crisis pregnancy center in Washington, D.C. last week. “We call on you to publicly condemn these unlawful attacks; to commit to vigorous efforts to prevent them, and to investigate and prosecute them; and to proactively engage with the affected faith communities to ensure their concerns and security needs are being met,” the groups wrote in the conclusion of their Friday letter (Fox News).

Nancy Pelosi Refuses to Condemn Violence Targeting Pregnancy Clinics

Julio Rosas: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was asked about Democrats’ lack of condemnation when it comes to the number of pro-life churches and pregnancy centers during her weekly press conference on Thursday. In response, Pelosi reiterated that women have the right to choose when it comes to bodily autonomy (Townhall). Eric Rosales: @SpeakerPelosi was asked about the attacks by domestic terrorist group on #ProLife facilities taking place across the nation. The Speaker DID NOT denounce fire bombs or vandalism, instead elaborated on her pro-#abortion agenda (Twitter). Spencer Brown: Wow. She pushed right past the terrorist attacks against pro-life organizations & launched a full-throated defense of abortion, calling herself “very Catholic,” citing Ireland. Would she vote to adopt Ireland’s abortion law? No chance. Pathetic performance (Twitter).

Biden Considering Declaring a Public Health Emergency to Protect Abortion

New York Times: President Biden’s top aides are weighing whether he can or should take a series of executive actions to help women in Republican-controlled states obtain abortions if the Supreme Court eliminates a woman’s right to end her pregnancy, according to senior administration officials. Some of the ideas under consideration include declaring a national public health emergency, readying the Justice Department to fight any attempt by states to criminalize travel for the purpose of obtaining an abortion, and asserting that Food and Drug Administration regulations granting approval to abortion medications pre-empt any state bans, the officials said (New York Times). National Review: While the move would almost certainly be met with legal challenges, the declaration of a public-health emergency could ostensibly allow the Department of Health and Human Services to suspend the state-based medical licensing regime so that blue-state doctors could perform abortions in states where abortion is outlawed or restricted (National Review).

President Biden Blames High Gas Prices on Oil Companies

Katie Pavlich: After pledging to end the oil and gas industry during his 2020 campaign, President Joe Biden sent a letter to executives from a number of oil companies this week and demanded they do more to decrease gas prices in the United States. His administration is also calling companies unpatriotic (Townhall). Dan O’Donnell: Joe Biden in 2020: “No more subsidies for the fossil fuel industry. No more drilling including offshore. No ability for the oil industry to continue to drill period. It ends” (Twitter). Daily Caller: Oil companies and industry trade groups criticized President Joe Biden after he sent a letter to them threatening action over high gasoline prices (Daily Caller). Eric Nuttall: Exxon comes out swinging (Twitter)!

White House Says Country Does Not Need More Oil Drilling

Fox News: White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre shot down calls to increase oil drilling in the U.S. Thursday, saying the country doesn’t need it (Fox News). RNC Research: JEAN-PIERRE: “We don’t need to” drill more oil in the U.S. REPORTER: “The president once said he’s going to end fossil fuel. Is that now off the table?” JEAN-PIERRE: “No. We are going to continue to move forward…” (Twitter). Patrick De Haan: WH begs oil cos to improve situation. Can we drill? We’d rather you not. Can we build a refinery? We’d rather you not. Can we build a pipeline? We’d rather you not. Just make it better (Twitter). Rep. Stephanie Bice: The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is supposed to be strictly used for national security emergencies and severe weather events, not as a Hail Mary when Democrat’s anti-American energy policies fail. Biden cannot keep tapping into this critical resource (Twitter).

Congressional Budget Office Misses Debt Prediction By $2.4 Trillion Over Next 10 Years

Jerry Bowyer: The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) just announced that the national debt would be $2.4 trillion higher than they’d previously said. Over the next 10 years, the national government is likely to borrow $14.5 trillion. This raises the issue of sustainability. Other nations have suffered debt crises in the past, even with lower levels of debt, and that includes developed countries. It is not clear that America will be able to make the interest payments on this debt. Currently, the national debt stands at about 125% of GDP. That exceeds the level seen by several of the countries involved prior to the European debt crisis, when markets eventually spiked interest rates to reflect the very real risk of default. Only bailouts from other European countries was able to forestall default, but which financial entity would be of adequate scale to bail the U.S. out (Christian Post)?

Elon Musk Meets with Twitter Employees in Q&A

CNBC: Elon Musk addressed Twitter employees on Thursday ahead of his $44 billion acquisition of the company… When it comes to legal but potentially harmful speech, Musk told Twitter employees, that people should be allowed to say what they want. But that’s different from Twitter promoting that speech, Musk said, according to the source. Users have the right to filter out content they don’t want to see, he added. Musk said the standard is much more than not offending people, it’s that they are entertained and informed (CNBC). New York Post: Asked about whether he would make layoffs at Twitter if the deal goes through, Musk was non-committal, reportedly saying, “Right now, costs exceed revenue. That’s not a great situation.” “The company does need to get healthy,” added Musk (New York Post).

Abbott’s Baby Formula Plant Closed Mere Weeks After Opening Due to Flooding

ABC: Less than two weeks after restarting production at its Sturgis plant, Abbott said it has once again been forced to halt baby formula production after thunderstorms flooded part of the facility. “These torrential storms produced significant rainfall in a short period of time, overwhelming the city’s stormwater system in Sturgis, Michigan, and resulting in flooding in parts of the city, including areas of our plant,” an Abbott spokesperson told ABC News. “As a result, Abbott has stopped production of its EleCare specialty formula that was underway to assess damage caused by the storm and clean and re-sanitize the plant. We have informed FDA and will conduct comprehensive testing in conjunction with the independent third party to ensure the plant is safe to resume production.” Abbott’s plant was offline for roughly four months after serious quality control and contamination concerns. Its massive recall and plant shutdown in February exacerbated the nationwide formula crisis American families are still experiencing (ABC). Associated Press: The storm also brought high winds, hail and power failures to Sturgis, Michigan, where the factory is located. The company expects production and distribution to be delayed for a few weeks as it cleans the plant (Associated Press).
