Since the leaked draft of SCOTUS’s plans to overturn Roe V. Wade, I immediately began to worry about the toll this will take on safe abortion access. Make no mistake: overturning Roe v. Wade and passing limitations to reproductive health don’t stop abortions from happening, but make them much less safe for patients, especially in marginalized communities.
Here’s my team’s original email below for context:
John,
Roe v. Wade has made reproductive health care a constitutional freedom for the last 50 years, giving patients the ability to keep important decisions between them and their doctor. Now, because of the MAGA-Republican stacked Supreme Court, its days are numbered.
Dr. Bera is leading the fight in Congress to protect the right to choose and is an original cosponsor on a bill to make over-the-counter birth control more readily available in states where reproductive rights are being limited.
John, the right to access safe and secure abortions should not be up for discussion. People who live in states like Florida, Wyoming, and Texas with Republican-led state legislatures should not have to worry about having their freedoms taken from them overnight.
As a doctor who has seen the effects of patients' choices not being their own, Ami is a champion for reproductive freedom.
