Today's Jan 6 hearing bombshell: Hours before Rudy Giuliani assured the
crowd at Trump's Jan 6 rally that Mike Pence could legally overturn the
election -- he admitted on a private phone call that it wasn't true.

And another: The lawyer at the center of the Pence theory tried to get a
pardon. -- He also knew the plot was illegal.

These hearings are far from over, but the January 6th committee has
clearly done its job. It’s time for Merrick Garland to do his.

Failure to hold those who broke the law legally accountable will allow
future attacks to succeed and the threat to our democracy will only grow.

Americans are now seeing the factual evidence of a criminal conspiracy
that started long before the violence on Jan 6 and that continues to this
day. As conservative Judge Michael Luttig testified to the Jan 6
investigators today, this is not about the past:

"Almost two years after that fateful day in January 2021, still Donald
Trump and his allies and supporters are a clear and present danger to
American democracy. That’s not because of what happened on January 6. It’s
because to this very day the former president, his allies and supporters,
pledge that in the presidential election of 2024, if the former president
or his anointed successor as the Republican Party presidential candidate,
were to lose that election, that they would attempt to overturn that 2024
election in the same way that they attempted to overturn the 2020
election, but succeed in 2024 where they failed in 2020.

This was -- and still is -- an attack on our vote, our voice, and our
democracy. The threat will continue and grow until those who broke the law
are held accountable.

We must hold those involved in this criminal conspiracy accountable --
even if they are former Presidents or members of Congress -- in order to
protect our right to vote and choose our own leaders.
