CHEYENNE, Wyo - Governor Gordon recently appointed Arley George of Cody to the Wyoming Beef Council.
The Wyoming Beef Council (WBC) is a five-member board of beef producers appointed by the governor to?increase demand for beef through promotion, education, and research. Three members of the board are producers of range cattle, one is a dairy farmer, and one represents the cattle feeding sector of the industry. George is a dairy farmer.
George is in partnership with his brothers, Scott and Lynn George. Together they run a 700 cow dairy, have 70 Semmintal-Angus cow calf pairs, and farm 1,500 acres of corn and alfalfa. They are also partners in an American Breeders Service business and provide artificial insemination services for area ranchers.
George is no stranger to service. He served 8 years on the board for the Heart Mountain Irrigation district, 5 years on the board of the Western Dairy Association and 2 years on the board of the United Dairy Industry Association.
WBC programs are funded by the $1-per-head Beef Checkoff collected on all Wyoming cattle. According to the Beef Promotion and Research Act and Order, fifty cents of each dollar collected is sent to the Cattlemen?s Beef Board while Wyoming cattlemen and women who serve on the WBC determine the expenditure of the remaining fifty cents under the purview of the Federal Beef Promotion Act and Order.?
George's term on the board begins immediately and will expire June 30, 2025 with the possibility of reappointment for an additional three-year term.
