John – Seven years ago this month, Amy Vilela made a commitment to her daughter, Shalynne, that she would not have died in vain. Amy has lived up to that promise every single day since by dedicating her life to the movement. Amy’s fierce advocacy for working people and determination to hold the powerful accountable has made her a powerhouse in the progressive movement.
She has mentored other women running for office, organized Nevada to activate young, progressive voters, and built a thriving small business supporting progressive campaigns. Her message of power for working people is a threat to the wealthy and well-connected, and it’s no surprise that dark money groups spent heavily to defeat her – just as they have many other candidates this year.
While we are saddened that Amy is not (yet) joining her movement sisters in Congress, we are so proud to have stood by her from the start of her journey, to stand with her still today, and beyond. To Amy, her family, and everyone on her incredible team, we want to say THANK YOU. You ran this race with courage and conviction, and you made Shalynne proud.
This fight is not over, and we have many more elections ahead of us still. Tomorrow we rise to fight again and we will keep fighting for a future where all of us can thrive. |
