The explosive hearings on the January 6 insurrection show in no uncertain
terms that Donald Trump led a massive, coordinated, and violent attempt to
overthrow the duly elected government of the United States.

From the deadly violence on January 6 to covert attempts to influence and
intimidate local elections officials, these hearings confirm what we've
long suspected: Trump led a criminal conspiracy with the intention of
overthrowing our government. 

And right now, before our very eyes, Trump is putting in place the pieces
necessary to attempt a second coup in 2024. Trump's plan centers around
installing his lackeys into offices that oversee elections.^1

Trump wants to install his cronies as governors and secretaries of state
in critical battleground states. Together, these officials oversee voter
registration, certify the winners and losers of elections, and are even
empowered to throw out ballots. 

When the 2024 presidential election comes, these loyalists will ensure
Trump is declared the winner—no matter the true will of the voters. 

Steve Bannon said it outright: "We're taking over all the elections."^2

John, you and I both know that Trump and the MAGA movement
planned and attempted to execute a coup. And we know that our democracy is
on a knife's edge.  

But Fox News, Trump's mouthpiece, refused to even cover the first
hearing.^3

Instead, Fox News aired its regularly scheduled programming: "Tucker
Carlson Tonight."

That's right: As the nation witnesses perhaps its most important and
high-profile congressional hearings since 9/11, Fox News is turning a
blind eye. 

That means that as the rest of the country learns about the facts of the
white supremacist insurrection, Fox News viewers are being spoonfed lies. 

And here's why that's dangerous: Those very same Fox News viewers will be
voting—in droves—during the 2022 election for candidates who promote
and/or believe in the Big Lie. 

Which means that it's going to be up to us to drive up turnout among
Democrats and progressives in order to win the midterm elections and save
our democracy.
