Friend — we're facing a bit of a crisis this Giving Tuesday — and I'm hoping you can help us out.
Here's the situation: A major donor has put up a $100,000 challenge gift to run pro-environment campaigns in 2020 —
but it only unlocks if 1,500 League of Conservation supporters contribute before midnight tonight.
Right now, we're 367 donations short of unlocking the $100,000 grant.
That's 367 donations short of funding today's biggest environmental fights.
367 short of funding major efforts to block the Keystone XL pipeline.
367 short of blocking uranium mining in the Grand Canyon.
367 short of campaigning to demand a fully functional EPA.
WE'RE SO CLOSE. Donate to League of Conservation Voters before midnight tonight to help our pro-environment campaigns. Gifts of any amount count, even if they're just $5.
This goal was a big one, and we're pulling out every stop to get there. After all the attacks on the environment we've defended against this year — everything from the gutting of the Endangered Species Act, to slashes to EPA funding, to a massive expansion in offshore drilling — our resources are stretched to the breaking point.
I want to give you a little more info about what we're up against right now — and why hitting this goal matters SO, so much.
- Because after a fourth major spill from the Keystone Pipeline, the Trump administration is allowing TC Energy Corp (formerly TransCanada) to move forward with its expansion — called Keystone XL. We're making an urgent push to block Keystone XL, but we have to move quickly if we have any shot at all. You can help. Make a donation to LCV today »
- Because the Trump administration is quickly pushing to sell access to the area around the Grand Canyon to allow uranium mining. The Grand Canyon has been home to Indigenous communities, including the Havasupai, Hualapai, Hopi, and Navajo Nation communities, for millennia. Congress is pushing to block the sale, but we need major grassroots pressure if we have any shot at succeeding. Please — donate today. Even $5 can make a huge difference »
- Because it was just leaked that the Trump administration is preparing to propose a rule for the EPA that will disallow the use of vast quantities of scientific data. This would virtually end meaningful implementation of significant parts of the Clean Air Act and many more bedrock environmental laws. We're organizing to stop the new rule — and to let the EPA use the best available science — but we can't keep up the fight without your help. Friend — I want you to know just how much your support matters. Please, donate today »
- Because the 2020 race is in full swing, and we need the environmental movement to push — HARD. We're getting the candidates on the record to make sure they have serious plans to fight climate change, including their ideas to invest in communities that are hit hardest by its effects. No matter what, we need the next president to act on climate change. The only way that happens is if the environmental movement mobilizes in a major way. We need YOUR help »
- Because even after Trump pulled the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, there's still a real shot at holding ourselves to the carbon-reduction commitments we made as a country. After aggressive grassroots campaigns, state and local governments are setting their own emissions limits. This is stuff that doesn't always make frontpage news — but it's huge, and it only happens when the environmental movement demands it. Friend — your donation keeps this work going »
If everyone reading this email chipped in today — even just $5 helps — we would blow through our goal, unlocking the Giving Tuesday Challenge and securing the resources we need for all the environmental campaigns we're fighting into 2020.
Please, contribute $5 to the League of Conservation Voters before tonight's Giving Tuesday deadline.
Thank you so much for all your support.
Sincerely,
Gene Karpinski
President
