[1]U.S. Senator Chris Murphy

As you’ve probably heard by now, we have a major first step to a deal on gun safety legislation.

We have 20 Senators — 10 Democrats and 10 Republicans — signed onto a bipartisan framework for meaningful legislation to save lives. That framework includes:

Resources to help states pass and implement red flag laws
Closing the “boyfriend loophole”
Investments in mental health and evidence-based school security
Criminalizing gun trafficking across state lines
Enhancing background checks with a pause for buyers under 21

This moment would not have happened without the incredible work of our movement, but we still need to get this bill over the finish line. We’re putting these ideas into legislative text now, and my hope is that we put this up for a vote this month. But I need your help to keep up the pressure and momentum for Congress to act.

So I’m asking you to call your senators today and ask them to support this framework and vote to pass our bipartisan gun safety bill.

Dial (202) 224-3121 to reach the Capitol switchboard and be directly connected with your senators.

If passed, this would be the most significant gun safety legislation in nearly three decades.

Will this bill do everything we need to end our nation’s gun violence epidemic? No. But it’s real, meaningful progress. And it breaks a 30-year logjam that shows Washington can work together in a way that truly saves lives.

It is honestly incredible to think about how far we have come. Six years ago this month, I went to the floor to speak after the Pulse shooting in Orlando and held the floor for nearly 15 hours to force us to take a vote on legislation. That vote failed, but we regrouped and kept organizing.

None of the great social change movements in our nation’s history achieved victory on their first attempt. But few have moved the public and gained power in Washington and in the states as rapidly as our movement to end gun violence has.

Please call your senators today at (202) 224-3121 and tell them you support the bipartisan gun safety framework and ask them to commit to voting for this bill.

We have a lot of work left to do before this gets to President Biden’s desk. But with your help and activism, we can get this done. This time, failure cannot be an option.

Every best wish,

Chris Murphy

Unlike many of his colleagues, Senator Murphy is able to dedicate more time to the work we expect him to do because of the grassroots support from people like you. Small-dollar donations allow him to spend less time fundraising or worrying about our modest goals.

So if you would like to directly support Senator Murphy and help him stay focused on the important work of passing gun safety legislation, please consider making a donation of any amount you can afford to his campaign today. This is especially important right now before this month’s FEC deadline. Thank you in advance.
