It's been a year and a half since Trump's lies roused his supporters to storm the Capitol when Congress was scheduled to certify the 2020 election results.
To this day, my opponent Michelle Steel still refuses to say whether she thinks Joe Biden won the election.
In an interview with The New York Times earlier this month, Steel is quoted saying she “did not know” if Joe Biden actually won.
This is what we're up against, John.
For Steel, the "Big Lie" is good politics -- so she will continue to double down. At a time when distrust in our institutions is at high, Steel fans the flames and encourages the spread of false information. Never mind the long-term damage it causes to our democracy or the deep-seated divisions it creates.
With today's January 6 hearings underway, let's remember that while hundreds of criminals were prosecuted for their actions, the Republicans who encouraged them are still in power, and they're still failing to uphold their oath to the constitution.
