Most people say they come to SPN’s Annual Meeting to learn from each other and celebrate the Network’s accomplishments. But something else is rising to the top of people’s reasons to attend Annual Meeting…
State Night!
This yearly event has become an attendee favorite because it’s one of the best chances to experience the local flavor and highlights of Annual Meeting’s host state—all while building relationships with colleagues from across the country. Scroll down to find out where this year’s State Night is taking place. (Hint: It’s one of Atlanta’s top attractions, and for one night only, it’s going to be open after hours exclusively for us!)
This week, I’m also pleased to introduce our Georgia-based state think tank hosts. Get to know them below and take note of where to meet them in-person during Annual Meeting.

** State Night: After Hours at the Georgia Aquarium
------------------------------------------------------------
7:00-9:00 p.m. | Tuesday, September 20
This year, State Night will provide an exclusive evening at the world’s largest aquarium. At the Georgia Aquarium, you can experience the shining vistas of five oceans, eleven seas, eight rivers, and the entire coastline of Georgia. The aquarium contains between 100,000 and 120,000 fish and other sea creatures, representing more than five hundred species.
Food and festivities: Watch belugas play while listening to live music and enjoying drinks and appetizers from Wolfgang Puck or go explore the Georgia Aquarium's many attractions. The aquarium closes to the public at 8:00 p.m., but as a State Night attendee, you will have after-hours access to the whole aquarium until 9:00 p.m.

Getting there: The Aquarium is located in downtown Atlanta, a short walk from the hotel. Light transportation will be available for anyone who doesn’t want to walk.

Although based in Georgia, the work of our state think tank hosts is having an impact beyond state lines. SPN’s Annual Meeting is a great opportunity to learn more about their areas of expertise and how they can be valuable to your own organization’s efforts.

GCO brings together solutions that lift people out of poverty and lead to thriving communities. GCO listens to those in need and works to remove the barriers they face — whether that be through policy changes, educational needs, or community-based opportunities.

Examples of GCO's impact includes their highly acclaimed Benefits Cliffs tool ([link removed]) which allows users in a selection of states to quickly search an individual’s circumstances and identify where the safety net structure might discourage someone from advancing off of government assistance. GCO has also been front-and-center on understanding and testing language that addresses the needs across social, economic, and party lines.

GPPF is a trusted, independent resource for voters and elected officials. They provide actionable solutions to real-life problems by bringing people together.
Issue Areas
GPPF's key issue areas include educational freedom ([link removed]) , market-oriented healthcare reform ([link removed]) , economic opportunity ([link removed]) and housing affordability ([link removed]) .
Examples of GPPF's impact include Georgia's recently passed flat personal income tax and their popular research ([link removed]) on how government regulation contributes to the price of a new single-family home in Georgia – more than $100,000 for a $400,000 home.
