Dear Friend,
It started when I was a kid. I’d have to touch a doorknob or a light switch four, eight, sixteen times. Otherwise, I thought my family wouldn’t be okay or that I wouldn’t do well in school. Soon after that, the worries and rituals just kept multiplying, eventually becoming OCD. It was the beginning of my journey in learning to manage my anxiety.
But it was also the beginning of another story entirely: my lifelong career advocating for children and their families struggling with what is too often a painful and isolating expierience.
One in five children struggle with mental health and learning disorders. In fact, they are the most common illnesses of childhood and adolescence.
As the Senior Director of National Programs and Outreach at the Child Mind Institute, I have witnessed the impact we can have when we reach children and their families with the support they need. We can relieve their pain. We can give them hope. We can give parents concrete tools that can make today and the next day better for their children.
Will you stand with us now in supporting the millions of children and their families who need us?
Right now, in honor of Giving Tuesday, any gift you make will be doubled thanks to generous support from Brooke Garber Neidich and Daniel Neidich.
My family and I were lucky: I was able to get the support I needed to not just survive but thrive. But there are far too many young people who don’t have the same access to hope and help. That’s why I’m so passionate about the work we do at the Child Mind Institute.
We are able to do lifesaving work to help families who have struggled so long to find effective care for their child that they had all but given up hope.
Every day, our teams are bringing clinical expertise to youth in under-resourced schools. We’re also building our online resources that put digital trainings, public education campaigns, and other clinical resources right into the hands of anyone who needs them— from mental health providers and educators to parents, teens, families, and policymakers.
Your choice to donate now makes it possible for us to reach even more young people who are in urgent need of mental health support.
DONATE AND DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT
Thank you for standing with us as we work to create a world where no child suffers from mental health or learning disorders.
Sincerely,
Dave Anderson, PhD
