First, Friend, thank you. As we head into summer months, inflation continues to put the squeeze on daily living. Its impacts are always worse on those already struggling. You understand this, and the value of a healthy community, and that’s why I am so thankful you’re with us at VOA.
Our VOA food banks, shelters, and other support services are seeing significantly more people, including many who never experienced food insecurity or the loss of their home before.
Cassidy, for one, didn’t see it coming. A hard-working mom, she told us she’d do anything for her two kids. She had just relocated to distance herself and her children from an abusive spouse. Eager for a new start, nothing was going to stop her.
Another crisis pressed in without warning—a dire cancer diagnosis. Treatment was her chance at survival. But it came at a cost. Cassidy missed work due to her compromised health, then lost her job. Unable to keep up with food, rent, and utility bills, she and her children were about to be kicked out of their home.
Families struggling without housing or food have a second chance with VOA. But our response is impossible without help.
With help from her local VOA, Cassidy found relief and a safe place for her kids to play at a supportive housing apartment. She immediately refocused on her health, new job, and most important for her, being a mom who provides for her kids.
Cassidy’s success drew from personal courage and the power of your generosity with VOA. I look forward to the impact we can make together in the challenging months ahead.
